Consortium task: Providing chemical compounds, expertise and cheminformatics for drug discovery screening procedures. Compound Handling will be involved in Work Package V. Track record: Compound Handling was founded in 2005 and bought all activities and assets of SPECS and BioSPECS B.V. Compound Handling, using the trade name Specs, provides chemistry and chemistry related services that are required in drug discovery. Compound Handling is one of the world's leading suppliers of screening compounds and research chemicals (Building Blocks and Natural Products) to the Life Science industry. Compound Handling's repository is built through global acquisition programs utilizing a network of more than 20.000 researchers working in universities and academic center's around the world since 1987 guaranteeing a true diverse chemical library of single synthesized, well-characterized and drug-like small molecules. Each month a variety of carefully selected novel compounds from all corners of the globe are added to the dynamic collection. The in-house library contains more then 350,000 single compounds. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and world-class expertise, Compound Handling provides customers with tailor made services and breakthrough solutions, allowing them to concentrate on their core (research) activities. All compounds are subjected to strict quality control, both by LC/MS and H-NMR, to check the purity (>90%) and integrity. Compound Handling can deliver compounds in every requested format either in vials, 96 or 384-well plates (dry film or DMSO solution) or any combination of these. Compound Handling has built up extensive knowledge and experience in Cheminformatics by using commercial as well as proprietary, in-house developed software to evaluate millions of structures offered each year, enabling companies to select the most drug-like and diverse compounds for their lead discovery programs. Furthermore, cheminformatics can provide additional information on possible toxicity, metabolism and other parameters necessary for drug development. Compound Handling has his own research laboratory (SRL) providing versatile state-of-the-art facilities for synthesis and research activities. This enables the company to provide analogs of lead compounds and potential drug candidates to enhance biological activity. Compound Handling acquired extensive expertise in biological screening procedures by collaborating closely with academic institutions and biotechnology companies in drug discovery programs. Compound Handling is actively involved in 8 different projects ranging from new cures for Alzheimer to the development of fundamentally different classes of antibiotics. In the sixth framework compound Handling can contribute in the drug discovery process from drug target to an optimized lead compound. |
