Andrew Cato is a Biochemist by training. On completing his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, he gained practical experience in the field of molecular endocrinology including the completion of several post-doctoral fellowships in Switzerland, Germany and Scotland.
In 1989, Andrew Cato was awarded the Schoeller-Junkmann Prize by the German Endocrine Society, of which he was a board member in the section of Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology from 1998-2000.
Specializing in research into the molecular action of steroid hormone receptors, he began teaching at the University of Karlsruhe in 1986. Drawing from his expertise in the area of molecular endocrinology, Andrew Cato has had the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Endocrinology as well as Molecular Human Reproduction. He has published over 100 scientific articles mainly on steroid hormone action and most recently co-edited a book on Recent Advances in Glucocorticoid Action (Springer Verlag, 2002).
