Consortium task: Dr. Wasylyk will participate in the Management Team of PRIMA as vice-chairman and is the coordinator for Work Package IV, target validation. Track record: Dr. Bohdan WASYLYK (BSc, PhD) (boh@titus.u-strasbg.fr), the local coordinator, has been a Research Director (First Class) in the CNRS since 1993, and head of the Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer Laboratory. He has an internationally recognized record in the identification and functional characterization of pathways involving the Ras oncogene and p53 tumor suppressor that are frequently altered in human tumors. His laboratory is actively working on the molecular characterization of human tumors, including Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Prostate Cancer. He has collaborated with a Pharmaceutical company (Aventis) in the identification of validated targets for the development of compounds to treat cancer. He also has active collaborations with a biotech company, ExonHit, concerning HNSSC tumor signatures. He is the coordinator of the Procure Biopharm FP5 project (QLK6-CT-2000-00159) concerning prostate cancer (www-igbmc.u-strasbg.fr/projets/ProCureBioPharm/). Dr. Olivier POCH (poch@titus.u-strasbg.fr) leads the BioInformatics and Genomics Group, which is part of the Structural Biology and Genomics Laboratory directed by Dino MORAS. His group is in charge of the development, access, training and maintenance of bioinformatic facilities for the IGBMC (500 persons) and is also responsible for the biocomputing development in the Génopole Alsace-Lorraine: "From gene to drug" serving the eastern part of France. His group has a large computer facility. In addition to the programs developed in house, the major new programs for database searching, sequence analysis, predictions are installed on our machines together with access for biologist users to the GCG package including 150 programs encompassing most of the needs in bioinformatic analysis. Annaick CARLES and Olivier POCH have developed the bioinformatics tools for the Procure Biopharm FP5 project. |
