Consortium task: Prof.dr. Visakorpi (tapio.visakorpi@uta.fi) will coordinate the activities of the Tampere university, as principal investigator. Track Record: Prof. Tapio Visakorpi’s group at the Institute of Medical Technology, University of Tampere: The group is specialized to molecular genetic studies of prostate cancer. The focus of the research has been in identification of genetic alterations underlying the progression and hormone-resistance of prostate cancer. The group utilizes modern molecular genetic methods, such as comparative genomic (CGH), fluorescence in situ (FISH), and cDNA microarray hybridization as well as DHPLC for screening genetic alterations. The research group has collected together with the Departments of Urology and Pathology of the Tampere University Hospital extensive material of frozen and formalin-fixed prostate tumors. These have been analyzed, in addition to the above mentioned methods, with real-time quantitative RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. |
