Consortium task: Prof. Schalken ( j.schalken@uro.umcn.nl) is coordinator of the consortium and leading scientist for the establishment of the high-throughput screening assays (Work Package V). Track record: Prof. Schalken has been involved in the coordination of a number of international collaborative activities such as membership of the board of the European Society for Urological Research (ESUR) and harmonization of the activities of this research driven society with the clinical directives of the European Association of Urology (EAU). In 1995, he organized the first world congress for Urological Research, an initiative where the American Society for Basic Urological Research (SBUR) and the European sister organization (ESUR) met in one congress. This joint meeting is now organized every other year. Prof. Schalken received a prestigious fellowship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 1988, and was appointed full professor of Experimental Oncology at the University of Utrecht, that he combined with his directorship of Experimental Urology in Nijmegen. In 2001, he was appointed the first full professor of Experimental Urology in Europe. He has (co) authored over 200 peer reviewed papers and over 50 chapters and is often invited as lecturer. Themanagement office is established at the institute of the coordinator (Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences) and is headed by dr. Bussemakers ( m.bussemakers@uro.umcn.nl). Marion Bussemakers has 12 years of national and international experience in multidisciplinary scientific research with a special interest in molecular biology and urology. Furthermore, she gained 4 years of experience as general manager of the Dutch Thoracic Society. |
